T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z3 gets the boot, no longer on sale

The current Sony Xperia Z3 flagship smartphone is no longer available for purchase from T-Mobile, the carrier officially confirmed.

T-Mobile added the Sony Xperia Z3 to its portfolio back in October last year, which means the handset had only six months on the carrier's network. Nevertheless, T-Mobile has apparently decided that it should stop offering the Xperia Z3, as it has officially removed the smartphone from its offerings.

The operator made no official announcement in this regards, nor gave any warning. One user noticed the absence of the Sony Xperia Z3 from T-Mobile's device portfolio and asked the carrier on Twitter. In response, T-Mobile officially confirmed, also on Twitter, that it is no longer selling the Xperia Z3, without offering any additional explanations.

Considering that the Sony Xperia Z3 was available just for roughly six months on T-Mobile, it's a bit odd to see it axed so soon. The move could be an indication that the next-generation Sony Xperia Z4 smartphone will make its formal debut soon, as rumors indicated.

Nevertheless, without an official explanation from T-Mobile as to why it ditched the Xperia Z3 already, it's tough to tell for sure whether it's making room for the new flagship or just decided to drop the smartphone from its portfolio.

Verizon Wireless is also selling its own version of the smartphone as the Sony Xperia Z3v, and the handset is still available from Big Red.

The next-generation Sony Xperia Z4, meanwhile, is expected to break cover soon, but no specific date is known at this point. Sony only hinted that it will launch the smartphone by September. Based on leaks and rumors so far, the upcoming flagship smartphone from Sony could sport a 5.2-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood, 3GB or RAM, 32GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional storage, a 20-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front shooter. On the software side, the smartphone should run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

It remains to be seen whether T-Mobile will offer the Sony Xperia Z4 when it launches, but for now one thing's for sure: the Xperia Z3 is no longer available from the Magenta carrier.
