Sony Xperia Z series Android 5.0 Lollipop progress

More Sony Xperia Z smartphones are set to get a treat to Android 5.0 Lollipop, the company has again confirmed.

Sony promised a while ago that it will update its entire Xperia Z series to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and it has already started rolling out the update to select devices. The company said that more devices were scheduled to follow soon, and pledged to offer regular updates on the whole process.

Owners of the Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, and Xperia Z3 Tablet compact should receive an update notification this week, if they haven't already received the new Android 5.0 Lollipop software. Next in line are the Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet, which will get the same treatment next week. Sony also confirmed that the Xperia T2 Ultra and the Xperia C3 will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop afterwards, but did not offer a specific timeframe just yet.

The older Sony Xperia Z will not be left out in the cold either, as it is also scheduled to receive the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop soon. Sony has yet to reveal just when the update will start rolling out to the Xperia Z, but has nonetheless confirmed that Lollipop is on its way to the entire Xperia Z series.

In response to a user inquiry, Sony also replied on Twitter that the Xperia Z1 Compact will get the update at the same time as the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, which will be after the Xperia Z2 gets its treat.

Android 5.0 Lollipop will include a slew of neat features and improvements, including the much-touted Material Design elements, enhanced lock screen notifications, more fluid animations, better battery life optimizations, improved security, general performance improvements, and much more.

When it comes to other Sony devices outside the Xperia Z series, it remains unclear at this point whether they will get Android 5.0 Lollipop as well. For now at least, Sony will focus primarily on delivering the update to its entire Xperia Z series, and other devices may not get the treat.

We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, so stay tuned.
