Apple has officially banned the use of selfie sticks or other such gadgets at its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2015.
The big event is still a couple of months away, but Apple has announced the rules ahead of time so everyone knows how it will all work. WWDC attendees will not be allowed to use selfie sticks, or any other type of monopod for that matter, within the confines of Moscone West or Yerba Buena Gardens, where the event will take place.
Attendees may take photos using their phones or compact cameras, but nothing too much. Apple has already forbidden developers to make audio or video recordings of WWDC events, or to use any professional photo equipment.
"You are not permitted to make audio or audiovisual recordings of WWDC or take professional photographic or video equipment, or wearable recording devices into Moscone West or Yerba Buena Gardens," Apple explains on its WWDC 2015 information page. "In addition, you may not use selfie sticks or similar monopods within Moscone West or Yerba Buena Gardens," adds the company.
Some attendees may prefer using selfie sticks or other such gadgets because they might give them an unobstructed view of the stage during exciting announcements such as the keynote, but such devices might in turn obstruct the view of other attendees, or Apple's own camera crews.
This is not the first time that selfie sticks are banned from such gatherings, as other major events have taken measures to ban them as well, over similar concerns of obstructing the view of others or of professional camera crews.
Apple's upcoming WWDC event will take place from June 8 - 12 this year, and the company is expected to unveil its latest iOS 9 and OS X 10.11. The conference will consist of more than 100 technical sessions, hands-on labs, Apple Design Awards, and feature over 1,000 Apple engineers. Those who cannot attend WWDC 2015 in person will be able to watch live streams of select sessions either via web, or via the special WWDC app.
WWDC events always draw a huge crowd and bring exciting announcements, and this year is expected to be no different. For more information about this year's conference, check out Apple's WWDC 2015 information page at this link.
