T-Mobile CEO explains new partnership with Google for Project Fi (VIDEO)

Google announced a new wireless service called Project Fi, and T-Mobile's CEO John Legere officially explained the carrier's commitment to this endeavor.

Simply put, Project Fi aims to offer users a simple and affordable alternative to existing mobile carriers. Switching between Sprint and T-Mobile's networks and Wi-Fi connections nationwide, Project Fi will automatically connect Nexus 6 smartphones to the network that has the strongest signal at the time.

According to T-Mobile's John Legere, Google's new Project Fi will change the way people think about Wi-Fi, to the benefit of consumers.

"Disruption is what the Un-carrierTM does. Our mission is to change the wireless industry for the better on behalf of all wireless consumers and business customers. We're on a relentless crusade to bring these changes to reality through our signature moves and our cutting-edge network technologies. So if you're looking for a partner who lives and breathes innovation - and has a network built for today's data-centric world and data-hungry customers - it's easy! You're going to want to come to the Un-carrier. And we're glad Google did just that," T-Mobile touted in a press release.

"One of the coolest things about Project Fi - IMHO - is Google's new technology that allows them to move customers between Wi-Fi and cellular partner networks based on the network that's the fastest at any given time."

Legere further highlights T-Mobile's notable efforts from last fall, when it turned virtually every Wi-Fi connection into a T-Mobile tower. With Project Fi, customers will be able to easily access both public Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

As previously mentioned, Project Fi implies switching between Sprint and T-Mobile's networks, depending on which one is best at a given time. T-Mobile is confident that its network will come on top, getting the most traffic.

"Since the cellular connection will be made based on network speed, we expect to capture the largest share of traffic coming from Project Fi customers - and chances are good that these customers are going to be riding on America's fastest nationwide 4G LTE network. The T-Mobile Data StrongTM network! If Project Fi customers are anything like our own, we expect they'll be data-hungry!"

Lastly, T-Mobile's CEO further points out that Project Fi will not include HD Voice, next-generation Wi-Fi calling between LTE and Wi-Fi, or other network innovations the carrier boasts, but Google will nonetheless support international roaming in over 100 countries and destinations.
