Samsung Clear View cover damaging Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge displays, users complain

Samsung launched a number of official cases and accessories for its latest smartphones, but the Clear View cover apparently damages the screen.

The vast majority of smartphone users have gotten accustomed long ago to buy special cases and accessories to protect their device. High-end smartphones come with a price to match and protecting your investment by minimizing the risk of damage makes sense.

For this reason, smartphone makers always release official accessories along with their flagship smartphones, allowing users to get some extra protection. In some cases, however, it seems that such protective cases might do the exact opposite.

The Clear View case Samsung released alongside its latest Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones is a transparent flip cover that's supposed to protect the handset's display, let users see what's on the screen, and allow for touch input. As it turns out, that functionality is only in theory, as in practice things take a turn to the worse.

Owners of Samsung's latest smartphones are reportedly having issues with the Clear View case, complaining that the accessory is actually scratching the display of the device instead of protecting it.

A disgruntled Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge owner took to XDA to complain about such issues, posting images of the device with several scratches on the display, although the Clear View case was in place since the very beginning.

"I have a 2 week old S6 Edge which i fitted the Samsung Clear View case from day one (Phone was purchased from Carphonewarehouse on the 29th April). The screen is now full of scratches since and is bloody annoying the hell out of me. I have contacted Samsung UK and awaiting reply.
I strongly recommend avoiding this case at all costs. It is expensive and WILL scratch your screen no doubt about that," the user warns.

"The same thing happened to mine and my beautiful new S6 Edge looks dreadful. I'm gutted as I've had iPhones for years and never had any marks. Spoke to samsung UK and they were less than helpful saying as I hadn't purchased the cover from them I had to contact the supplier....who were brilliant and have issued me a refund and said I should contact samsung again........but I'm still left with a damaged screen. This product is not fit for purpose as, due to the hard front cover being in direct contact with the glass, when grit or dust get between it rubs around resulting in circular scratched patches all over the screen. The cover shows no marking at all....just the "unscratchable Gorilla glass"!!
I'm sure when this phone and case combination is used on the beaches during summer there will be some seriously upset people !! DO NOT BUY THIS COVER," adds another XDA user.

Both of these users have posted images of their devices, showing the display damage and blaming the Clear View cover not only for not serving its rightful purpose, but for causing the damage. The images clearly show scratches and scuffs on the device's display, and that shouldn't have occurred with the protective accessory in place, let alone be caused by it. Many others complained about similar issues, and there's a growing thread on XDA. Some even say they have also placed a protective film on the display, and damage still occurred.

In addition to these frustrating signs of damage to the display, the Clear View cover also disappoints when it comes to functionality. The cover should allow users interact with notifications, as it is touch sensitive, but instead it only allows for answering calls and viewing notifications.

Samsung's own web store is no longer selling the Clear View cases for now, as the accessories now appear as "sold out." This could be a sign that the company is aware of the issue, but no official response or solution is available yet.
