Samsung is officially ready to launch its Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Limited Edition smartphone in collaboration with Marvel, but only select markets will get it.
This limited-edition version of the Galaxy S6 Edge stems from Samsung's collaboration with Marvel for the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie. The design of the smartphone is based on the Iron Man suit, sporting dark red front and rear panels and a golden finish on the side bezels. The rear panel also boasts an Iron Man mask monochrome image. Samsung is also throwing in a matching wireless charger that resembles the arc reactor, as well as a clear cover, to complement the smartphone's design.
"We are excited to be able to offer our world-class Galaxy S6 edge smartphone designed especially for Iron Man fans through our continued collaboration with Marvel," Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Electronics, touts in the press release on Tuesday, May 26. "The limited edition Iron Man Galaxy S6 edge embodies the power of the iconic Avenger with a dual-curved edge design and advanced features that will provide Marvel fans with the ultimate entertainment experience."
Other than the special design and some Avengers software such as new icons, fonts, and color scheme, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Limited Edition comes with the same hardware specifications as the original model.
As a reminder, the smartphone features a 5.1-inch dual-edge Super AMOLED display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and a pixel density of 577 ppi. Under the hood, the Galaxy S6 Edge packs a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 SoC (quad 2.1GHz + quad 1.5GHz) and 3GB of RAM. Other specs include a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and LED flash, a 5-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,600 mAh battery. The Iron Man version of the smartphone comes with 64GB of internal storage capacity, non-expandable.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Iron Man Limited Edition is set to launch in South Korea on Wednesday, May 27, after which it will reach China and Hong Kong in June. Samsung has yet to mention just how much this special edition costs, or whether it will reach other markets worldwide.
