Two giant tech companies, Facebook's Oculus Rift and Microsoft's Xbox, have prepared for another partnership towards their efforts in providing their consumers reliable technological breakthroughs that will maximize the features and functionality of their gadgets.
On a press conference on Thursday, June 11, held in San Francisco California, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe introduces the consumer version of the Rift virtual reality headset, which is also set to be released in early 2016. Through this team-up, Xbox users can stream Xbox One gaming console to the Oculus Rift as long as the same is linked to a Windows 10 PC.
"VR allows us to experience anything anywhere, it is that powerful," said Iribe. He also asserted that everyone in the team is only up to a certain mission: virtual reality.
Phil Spencer, Microsoft's Xbox Division head, said that the Oculus Rift is set to work on Windows 10 and Microsoft will allow Xbox One gaming console to stream to the headset as part of the virtual cinema experience Oculus has created. "This partnership allows us to focus on a space that's different from them with our Hololens -- they actually watched the briefing with the Hololens on, streaming the picture on the wall. It's like the most surreal thing, but they were all really excited about the show," he explained.
"We believe we'll be able to create state of the art virtual reality experiences with the Oculus Rift on top of Windows," Spencer added.
Oculus Rift VR headset will come out soon with an Xbox One wireless controller and a standing camera. This innovation will be used to track the movements of the head and body of its users. Its newest breakthrough, the head-tracking system, is believed to be important in delivering maximum user performance.
How much does it cost?
According to reports, though Oculus did not disclose the exact price of the VR headset, company executives recently gave the consumers a hint that it may cost around $1,500 if bundled with a PC, CNET.
This technology is really something everyone will look forward to and get very excited about.
