Canada - yesterday, search company Google introduced its email service's arm's newest feature, the undo send button. It may just protect users from unneccessary email embarrasments and mishaps.
A typographical error, an embarrassing piece of gossip, an account of what happened last Friday night, an all-important document that was supposed to be sent to Mr. Watts, but is now finding its way to Mr. Witts' inbox. These are emailing mishaps that everyone has been in at least once in his life.
Everyone has probably sent an email he or she regrets writing or sending, and if it could just graciously-and easily-stopped from being delivered to the wrong person, that would be such a life-saver. To the paranoid ones, if one can undo sending out a wrong email, it would be a security blanket. As it turns out, one can do just that, and there is such a thing as an 'undo send button'.
It has been in Google's experimental labs, Google labs, for six years now. Today, the internet giant has announced that it will formally launch the undo send button as a feature in Gmail, its widely popular electronic messaging arm.
Users can opt to delay the delivery of emails by a few seconds to half a minute, to be able to give them room to rethink and check overlooked errors, and save themselves from mishaps caused by missent messages. Should the user decide against sending out a particular email, he or she can click on 'unsend' within the designated lag time.
To access this feature, click on settings and select the preferred lag time. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the new feature will be made accessible to Gmail users in the coming weeks.
Gmail is the world's most widely used email service, boasting 900 million users worldwide. Already eleven years into the emailing business, it remains to be a very popular choice among email service providers because of how it is integrated to other services provided by Google. Gmail also has free device storage features, which adds to the practicality of its usage.
