Microsoft Skype Releases Business App for Windows Phone 8.1

Starting on July 6, the Skype for Business client app from Microsoft is available for Windows Phones version 8.1. This is in fact an updated unified communications application known formerly as Lync. Skype for Business includes enhanced security features, updated notifications, updated emoticons, and synchronization of conversations across devices.

Those users who already have the Lync 2013 app installed on their Windows Phones will automatically be updated to the new Skype for Business app. For those who you own a Windows Phone 8.1 and higher but still do not have installed the Lync 2013 app, if they want to use the new Skype for Business app they will need to download it from the Windows Store.

For those who own a Windows Phone 8.0, they can continue to use Lync version 201o or 2013. The two older versions will remain supported and compatible even if your company is running the new Skype for Business Server. Skype for Business clients for Android and Apple will be available later this year.

The communication-powered Skype for Business app delivers productivity in Office. Microsoft has delivered in the past few months the new Skype for Business Server, Skype for Business client for Windows, and Skype for Business Online in Office 365. In Office 365 the Skype for Business Program provides new meetings and voice capabilities.

Now the Skype for Business app is available for Windows Phone. Skype for Business comes with improved server communications, more emoticons, and a new and more intuitive interface. Those users who are already familiar with the Lync app for Windows Phone, will easily notice a number of enhancements in the new Skype for Business app. Among the most noticeable differences are the Skype for Business UI and brand and UI, which is intuitive and familiar for those who used Skype before in personal communications. The revamped emoticons offer more than 100 choices to visually enhance your message.

Skype for Business also comes with improved handling of the conversation notifications between the app and the server. Once a user receives a notification of a new conversation on the phone, the other logged in clients won't be able prevent the user from responding on the phone. Data encryption of voicemail and conversation history provides enhanced security. As long as you are running the latest server software, whether they took place on your phone, tablet, or PC, the most recent conversations are now synchronized across devices.
