On Tuesday, July 7th, the Everything Everywhere UK mobile network operator has revealed its latest asset in the competition against other own-brand smartphones from rival UK operators. Meet EE Rook, the UK's cheapest smartphone that features 4G LTE connectivity.
On Pay as you go, the EE Rook is being offered to EE's existing customers for a price tag of just £39. New EE customers will be able to buy the Rook for only £49.
This is not the only own-brand Android device launched by EE this year, but none have been quite as affordable as this one. In order to keep its price inexpensive, the EE Rook comes in what could be considered somehow a low-end configuration. The Android smartphone features a VGA front-facing camera unit, a 5 MP rear camera, 4-inch 800x480 touchscreen, 1 GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage expandable through microSD cards, and a 1,500 mAh battery. The EE Rook smartphone is powered by ta 64 bit chipset MediaTek MT6735M and a 1 GHz quad-core CPU working at a 1 GHz. The device runs Android 5.1 Lollipop.
The advanced CPU powering the Rook is enabling smoother game play experience, faster web browsing, further improved battery life, and quicker multitasking. The Rook's battery life can last for over 400 hours stand-by-time and more than five hours of talk time on a single charge.
The Rook smartphone from EE is available now from the operator via telesales, in stores, and online. The UK mobile phone operator estimates that it will meet an increasing demand on the market for cheap smartphones. Statistics and opinion polls performed in the UK have shown that apparently 44 percent of users of the Pay as you go plan would prefer to spend only £50 or less on a smartphone.
With the cheapest Android smartphone on the market, UK's most advanced digital communications company, EE, caters to this category of budget consumers of mobile phone services. The Rook will be the only new handset in under £50 price range available in the UK that provides a superfast 4G experience. This cheap Android device is opening double-speed 4G to more than 2.5 million consumers on the UK mobile services market.
The EE UK operator believes that every one of these consumers should have access to the experience 4G can offer on the go. With its compelling price, the Rook is a good 4G smartphone that allows more UK consumers to enjoy the benefits of EE's superfast 4G mobile network, from streaming and gaming to high-speed downloads and high speed web browsing.
