UK Has 14 Million Instagram Users

A spokesperson of Instagram has revealed that the photosharing app has reached 14 million users in the United Kingdom. The Facebook-owned company has not released individual user figures for a country until now.

The popular social platform has 300 million active monthly users all over the world. Its parent company, Facebook, has 1.44 billion users in the world, 35 million of which are from the United Kingdom. Active monthly users are determined by the company as those who log in to check their accounts at least once a month. It does not necessarily mean posting pictures for their accounts.

According to The Next Web, Instagram also divulged on other figures regarding the app's activity. Instagram reportedly has 70 million photos uploaded everyday. The cumulative number of likes for all the photos reach 2.5 billion.

Since Instagram has never released any region-specific statistics regarding its users' activity, whether or not the figures indicate an increase or decrease in active users cannot be determined. Thirty percent of the company's audience comes from the United States. The remaining seventy comes from countries outside America.

Amy Cole, head of brand development for EMEA, said that Facebook's advertising tools will eventually be seen and used in Instagram. The app is a popular platform for self-promotion and accessibility among celebrities, who keep millions of their followers updated through Instagram.

Big-name brands have also taken to the photosharing and social app to keep customers in the loop of new products, and also gain more customers in the process. Service-oriented businesses have Instagram as their chosen venue for advertising what they can offer.

The viability of Instagram as an avenue for building a solid following, or simply just enjoying the sheer number of likes, relies on the number of active users and followers. Last year, businesses and celebrities have suffered losses in their number of followers as the company deactivated fake and spam accounts which boosted their numbers. Last weekend, Instagram users found boosts in follower numbers after a bug has infected the app.

Instagram has been launched in 2010, and is considered the most popular photosharing app by many.
