Samsung has announced the addition of a new smartphone model in its roster of mobile devices. The Galaxy A8 is Samsung's thinnest phone yet. With a thickness of 5.9 mm, it may also be the thinnest model recently confirmed to be in the works, among other smartphones in the market. In contrast to this slim new model, Apple is projected to release its latest iPhone, which will be 0.2 mm thicker than the previous one.
Samsung Galaxy A8 is targeted towards the Korean tech company's customers in China. The upcoming mobile model will be making its debut in the country. The phone specifications, Samsung claims, is made for the Chinese market, saying it has considered the user habits of the large demographic.
The new phone will be powered by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. According to The Inquirer, the device will have a 3,050 mAh battery capacity, which is larger than that of the Galaxy S6. It will also have a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Galaxy A8 will also feature a front and back camera.
No release date has been announced for the device as of yet. It is, however, already available for pre-order in China. It will be available in black, white and gold. Samsung has not indiated if Galaxy A8 will be sold outside of the country. The country's homegrown smartphone brands, Xiaomi and OnePlus, are expected to give tough competition for the Samsung device. Xiaomi is reportedly the number one mobile brand in China.
Apart from the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy A8, the technology giant, which has produced some of the best-selling smartphones in the recent years, has also moved up the release of Galaxy Note 5. The initially rumored September release has been moved to August.
The introduction of the Galaxy A8 may serve to heighten excitement over Samsung, as Apple is also poised to launch its iPhone 6S in October. A launch before the iPhone hits the market may add hype to the Samsung models, which, the company will do well to sustain. Recent news have been indicative of plummeting sales for Samsung.
