July 21, Tuesday-Google will be shutting down its Google Plus Photos App. The tech giant has announced that the app will be pulled out of android app stores first. The app will then be made unavailable to web and iOS users.
"In an effort to ensure everyone has the best photos experience we can deliver, on August 1st we'll start to shut down Google+ Photos -- initially on Android, and soon thereafter on the Web and iOS." Google has stated the following in an official post.
Google Plus Photos is a feature of Google's Google Plus, the multifunctional platform of the company, which allows access to productivity and social tools made by Google. While the app is bolted to the platform, memory devices can dump content in the cloud storage and share with contacts on Google Plus.
The photo and video storage app lets users keep their files on an account. The storing capacity is unlimited, and being an app by Google, is synced with all accounts from the search engine.
Google Plus Photos has been discontinued for Google Chrome starting on July 21. In May this year, the search giant has launched Google Photos, a standalone app which similarly stores photos and videos.
The app has a sorting feature, grouping similar photos together in labeled folders. The said feature has been embroiled in a controversy for being faulty earlier this month.
The discontinuation of the Google Plus Photos App serves to make way for Google Photos. Google has already inserted announcements of the shutdown, suggesting the download of the new app.
Says Google of the suggested switching, "Don't worry, all your photos and videos will still be saved and available after you switch to the new, stand-alone Google Photos app. With the new app you'll still be able to backup, edit, and share your photos and videos, with unlimited storage, automatic organization, and more."
Google Photos app is available for android.
