IBM Integrates Compose in Its Cloud Data Technology

Tech development company IBM now has an even wider array of data analytics technology. This comes with the company's acquisition of Compose, a database-as-a-service provider. Compose has announced on a blogpost dated July 23, Thursday, that it will be joining IBM. IBM has similarly released a statement regarding the new acquisition. Financial terms of the deal have not been divulged to the public.

"At IBM, Compose will be part of the Cloud Data Services (CDS) group. It's a great fit. We'll be able to continue building what we think is important, with a brand we really like, and the same team that works so well together. All with the backing of a major company. As a nice bonus, we're especially excited about CDS. IBM has a tremendous database pedigree (it's kind of ridiculous, Codd invented the relational model there in the '60s) and CDS is the spearhead of their efforts to reinvent the entire company. It's an incredible new challenge." Compose said about the deal.

Compose indicated in its post that customers have no major changes to anticipate following the acquisition. The team has said that the service is just becoming "more credible". Compose is looking to expand support. It also noted that prices are not changing, although it hinted on having new products and probably new pricing for them. Also stated by the team is that Compose will continue using the same database.

IBM is similarly looking forward to the deal, stressing the number of users Compose will bring to the company. "This strategic acquisition brings to IBM and the Cloud Data Services portfolio, over 3,500 active customers that span multiple industries and include a broad range of developers ranging from startups to larger companies' development teams."

The tech development major also stated that the purchase of Compose extends IBM's cloud service and implied that the step is beneficial for both parties. Compose is already part of IBM's analytics group and available as a service in the company, as part of its Database Services Business.

Compose is originally known as MongoHQ. It has been founded in 2010. IBM began developing its cloud service last year.
