Japanese tech company Sony has launched two new phones to the mobile market. The company's Xperia C5 Ultra and Xperia M5 have formally been introduced. This is a much-awaited event for Sony, which announced its decision to pursue the mobile market last month. News of the upcoming phones, which have now debuted, made their rounds online in the past few days.
From ZDNet's report, it appears that the mobile company has set its target on the selfie-taking smartphone users. The Xperia C5 Ultra has a 13-megapixel camera on both its front and rear. This is a significantly bigger megapixel capacity, especially for a front camera. Many smartphones have opted to go with 5-8 megapixels for the cameras they are equipped with.
Xperia M5 has a slightly higher-end megapixel capacity for its rear camera. The new model has a 21.5-megapixel main camera. Sony claims that this will enable users to snap and produce high-quality photos, letting them have the professional photographer experience.
The Xperia M5 also has an aluminum frame. The Znet article also indicated that the said model has a 5-inch HD display of 1920x1080 pixels. The memory capacity is 16 GB, which is small compared to the already mainstream 32 GB capacity of its competitors. Only 10 GB of the storage can be used for both devices.
The Xperia C5 Ultra has a bigger display. It has a 2GB RAM while the M5 has 3GB. It is expected to be priced at $350. The Xperia M5, on the other hand, will retail at $400.
Sony has suffered low sales on the smartphone market. The market is dominated by the two leading smartphone brands, Apple and Samsung. Startups such as Oppo, OnePlus and Xiaomi have been growing increasingly popular in the mobile business. Over the years, Sony has struggled to keep up with the competition.
Despite the low sales, the company has announced last month that it is determined to stay in the mobile market for good. Hiroki Totoki, Sony's CEO and president, made this announcement to address speculations that the company will be easing out of the mobile scene. While Xperia launched to positive reviews and promising sales last year, Sony has reportedly projected an annual loss of $1.7 billion.
In light of the recent release, netizens are projecting that the new devices will be able to catch smartphone users' attention. It still leaves to be seen whether they will help Sony catch on its sales as well.
