Prices Increase For PlayStation Plus In UK

Sony has announced that it will be altering the prices of its premier online service subscription. PlayStation Plus will be having new prices in the U.K., Sony confirmed to website Tech Radar. The subscription costs have noticeably increased. The company, however, has not announced whether the price hike will also be applicable in the United States and other countries where the service is available.

On Tuesday, August 11, Sony has said in a statement to Techradar that, "We are dedicated to bringing PlayStation Plus members the best possible service with the most compelling content," adding that the company "will continue to invest in PS Plus to ensure an unparalleled experience, featuring the best quality games and features." Sony indicated that the price increase for PlayStation Plus will apply beginning this September 1.

The new prices for the online service subscription are as follows: the one-month subscription will cost £5.99 from the original price of £5.49. The three-month package will jump from £11.99 to £14.99, the biggest increase among the three subscription packages. The one-year subscription will remain at £39.99. The new costs are poised to encourage PlayStation Plus customers to shift to the yearly offering.

PlayStation Plus is the Japanese company's online service, with a library containing hundreds of game selections to choose from and play. Sony said that the price increase is "in line with market conditions." The service enables customers to engage in multi-player gaming experiences online. Through PlayStation Plus, players also get to interact with fellow players who enjoy the same games they do, establishing communities of like-minded gamers.

Recently, Sony's game streaming service, PlayStation Now, has been made available in PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV. The arrival of the service to the gaming console also comes with new additions to the expanding game library, which includes the award-winning God of War III.
