Microsoft Introduces Skype For Business Preview For Android And iOS

Tuesday, August 11, Microsoft has unveiled the preview of video call app Skype's new version, Skype for Business. The app is available to both Android and iOS devices. Skype for Business is centred on the working user, with features that make the app handy and practical for use in the workplace. Microsoft has introduced three new features included in Skype for Business.

The announcement, written by Skype for Business team's principal group program managerJared Goralnick, stated the following as differences of the new version from the original Skype app. "We've infused Skype simplicity throughout the new iOS and Android apps created a new dashboard for easy navigation of your contacts, calls and meetings, and updated the In-Call and In-Meeting experience."

Goralnick cited that the contact search bar now allows users to search contacts by typing in phone numbers, email aliases, first names and last names. This makes for a wider and easier search experience and accessibility for the app's users. The app also has the Upcoming Appointments feature, which lets users see their scheduled meetings and join them right away. The third is the Recent Conversations, which enables users to get back to contacts they have interacted with after a short period of time.

Goralnick added, "We rebuilt the In-Call and In-Meeting experience with new features that make it easier to navigate calls and meetings on your mobile phone or tablet." The app is now equipped with larger buttons and a video display that occupies the entire screen. The app also lets users view video and content at the same time.

Microsoft is calling for volunteers to participate in the preview. Interested parties may visit www.skypepreview.com. Signups and applications will be accepted until August 14, Friday. The chosen volunteers will then be notified by August 17, Monday, via email.
