Xiaomi Launches MIUI 7, Redmi 2 And Redmi Note 2 Prime Internationally

China-popular smartphone company Xiaomi has released the MIUI 7 firmware update for all Xiaomi users. At the same time, the well-known Chinese mobile major has launched two midrange smartphones for international clients. These are the Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime. The update and the new smartphone models have been released on Thursday, August 13.

The MIUI 7 comes with new features, one of which enables users to use videos as ringtones for contacts. Xiaomi smartphone owners can set the videos for existing contacts so that every time they call, the corresponding videos will automatically play instead of the traditional ringtone. Techworm also reports that MIUI 7 is equipped with facial recognition technology, allowing users to sort photos by faces. The update can be activated by clicking on Xiaomi's settings and upon doing so, selecting System Updates. The update can then be downloaded and used.

The Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime are slated to go on sale online in China beginning August 16. Both of the smartphones are 4G/LTE-enabled. The Redmi Note 2 has a dual sim. It has a 5.5-inch full HD display and has front and rear cameras. The front camera is 5 megapixels, whereas the rear camera is 13 megapixels. Battery capacity for the device is 3,060 mAh.

The Redmi Note 2 Prime, on the other hand, has specs that stick closely to the Note 2. Prime, however, has 2.2 GHz processor as compared to Note 2's 2 GHz. It is also equipped with 32GB memory. The Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime will retail for $125 and $155, respectively.

Xiaomi is one of the leading Chinese mobile companies and over the recent years, it has gotten its own place in the global smartphone market. Though it has fallen short of its 100 million-unit target sales, the company has sold a sizeable 35 million units so far this year. Xiaomi is also known to have sold 10,000 units in one second, a feat for a company competing with bigwigs Apple and Samsung. Xiaomi has also been reported to release a Windows 10 tablet this August 16.
