High-tech windscreens have been under development and testing recently. Car makers Hyundai and Volvo have made their own versions of such devices, which are able to project warnings and even connect to the internet. BMW has also been reported to be working on a similar technology this year. The head-up display technology is not only being pioneered by car companies. Analysts say that U.S. tech major Apple may be pioneering a futuristic windscreen as well.
According to a Skynews report, a tech analyst in Global Equities Research said that Apple is 'very likely' to be making a 27 to 50-inch futuristic car windscreen. The windscreen will be giving information such as directions, weather conditions and speed warnings among others, to motorists while they hit the roads. Another tech analysis company, Analyst Trip Chowdhry, has the same findings.
Chowdhry has added that aside from the likelihood of Apple making such a technology being very high, the windscreen may be the 'next generation device' for the company. The windscreen, according to the analysis firm, will have sensors that will make it gesture-controlled. Chowdhry, however, does not see the device being released and sold anytime soon. Although that seems to be the case for now, the analysis firm predicts that the head up display technology may also be present in other devices such as televisions.
Apple has not commented on the report. Automobile companies have begun testing their own HUD windscreen earlier this year. The devices can warn drivers of overspeeding and potential crashes. Startup Navdy, which is based in San Francisco, has also come up with a display that is both gesture-controlled and voice-activated. It can also connect to Facebook and Twitter, and project notifications from the sites. The technology is said to sell for $299.
