Wednesday, Aug. 19- the second iteration of mobile company Silent Circle's line of privacy-focused handsets has arrived and is now available for pre-order. The Blackphone 2 has been introduced as a prototype in early March this year. The private gadget is branded as more sophisticated that its predecessor, the original Blackphone. Both devices retail for flagship-level prices.
The cost of the Blackphone 2 has not been disclosed, so if one opts to pre-order, it will be good to ready around $700 or more. The original Blackphone was priced at $629. According to Endgadget, the new model is an upgrade of the first mode, so a steeper price must be expected. The Blackphone 2 is powered by the Android operating system, PrivatOS.
The device comes with secure apps which include ones that are for encrypted messaging and voice calls. The apps are tied up to what Silent Circle calls an "enterprise privacy platform". Blackphone 2 has a 5.5-inch 1080p display, with both its front and rear covered in glass. It has an octa-core processor, a 32GB storage, and a 3GB RAM. Earlier reviews of the Blackphone 2 say that the device has a better display and is lighter than the original.
The beefier processor will presumably enable the device to perform better, with faster speed. Silent Circle has not divulged further details about the Blackphone 2, only that the phone will be released in Sept. this year. The date remains unspecified. To avail of the pre-order, visit the Blackphone website and contact Sales.
Silent Circle says of its line of privacy-centered mobile devices, "Blackpnone is the world's first smartphone built from the ground up to be private by design. Now that it has released the second iteration of the private smartphone, Silent Circle adds, "Now with a faster processor, more RAM, and a larger display."
The technology company is also slated to release a tablet powered by the same private operating system. The Blackphone Plus tablet has already been announced, but Silent Circle has kept quiet as to when the tablet will be set for release.
