Windows 10 Mobile Eats Up 8GB Of Your Phone's Storage

The Windows 10 rollout is ongoing, and the operating system's mobile version has gone under testing by Windows Insiders. WinBeta, the group in charge of beta versions of Windows software and operating systems, has revealed a downer for the new mobile OS. Windows 10 Mobile requires a huge 8GB phone storage, which means the operating system is not for phones with smaller storage.

The whopping 8GB storage is needed for smartphones to upgrade from the Windows 8.1 operating system to Windows 10, wrote a Times of India article. Current Windows-powered handsets like Lumia 530 and HTC 8S only have half the size of the required storage as their internal storage, at only 4GB. Windows 10 Insiders have already found out before that the system needs more than 4GB storage.

Microsoft has gained much of its market from lower-end phones, so requiring a massive storage for its new OS is an unlikely step to take. Lumia 530 has been announced as one of the first mobile phones which will get Windows 10 Mobile. More than ten Lumia devices have previously been revealed to be getting the operating system. That the storage of the phone is not enough to accommodate the OS is contradictory.

Windows 10 has been released by the software company late last month, on July 29. Microsoft has not been very clear about the new operating system, and before its release, the company caused confusion as to who are eligible to get the free Windows 10 upgrade. Prior to its release, builds have been available to Windows Insiders, and claims that the OS may not come on the scheduled date have surfaced.

The operating system has most recently been reported to have caused its users from being banned from torrent sites. Windows 10 allegedly has a setting that sends identification information directly to Microsoft and as such, users have not been allowed to use trackers of torrent sites. Upon rolling out, Windows 10 has also been used to spread malware, as hackers disguised emails as those of free upgrades from Microsoft.
