Google Gives New Look To App Search Results For Mobile

If you've been googling some new apps for your phone, you may have noticed that Google has given the display for the search results a brand new look. Previously, the results for app searches using Google on mobile looked almost like regular search results.

Now, the search engine has displayed the app search results in the form of colourful tiles, which are lined up in rows. According to PCMag, the new look is available only to Android mobile devices as of the moment. No word has been said yet as to when the feature will be available to PCs and other gadgets.

Desktop and iOS gadgets still display the app results in the old form, which the PCMag article says is 'ugly'. It has been noted, however, that the new look compromises the practicality of the old one. The previous look includes details about the app. The tile form, on the other hand, only shows the name of the app, its rating and how many times it has been downloaded.

To add to that, the new feature only applies to searches that indicate that a user is indeed looking for legit apps. This means that the keywords which will yield a tile form result should describe a category of the app. For example, searching for 'apps for music' or 'game apps' will show results in tiles.

The minor update looks really good for Google, although users still seem to be torn between its new neater and more organized display and its more detailed former layout. However users see it now, the search engine still serves its function and allows them to download their apps, so it does not seem to be that big of a stretch.

The search giant has rolled out the new feature to all Android devices. What do you think of the new layout? Which one do you like better?
