Chinese tech company Huawei has announced its very own smartwatch, the Huawei Watch. The company is not exactly known for its products' designs and aesthetics, but the new smartwatch seems to be getting attention due to its modern and classy look.
An India Today article dubbed it the "prettiest Android smartwatch" to date. The device comes in silver and gold. The rounded dial and metal finish gives the Huawei Watch a look that can easily be mistaken for a premium and classic wristwatch. This belies the operating system and other components that make it a smartwatch.
The Huawei Watch is powered by Android, and being an Android Wear device, can be customised according to the owner's preferences. Clients may opt for leather or rubber bracelets for the device as well, apart from the stainless steel. It is also equipped with a 1.4-inch, 400×400 pixel AMOLED display.
As with other Android smartwatches, the Huawei Watch is equipped with a Qualcomm processor with 4GB storage and 512MB RAM. Battery capacity of the new smartwatch is 300 mAh. The company claims that the smartwatch can last up to two days with a single charge. Charging time takes only about an hour or full battery charge.
The Huawei Watch will be available in the U.S. starting Sept 17, Thursday. The device will be sold in countries such as Germany, U.K., Italy and France among others soon after. The new smartwatch retails for about $349, the same price as the Apple Watch and other known smartwatch brands.
The Huawei Watch is equipped with iOS support, and has recently been announced to be one of the Android Wear devices to have the Android Wear app for iPhones soon. This means that the Huawei Watch will be able to work with iPhones in the near future. For now, Android Wear for iOS only works with the LG Watch Urbane.
