Japanese tech company Sony has had an eventful year so far. And as the last quarter of the year 2015 eases in, there are strong indications that Sony will close the year with a bang. Although the computer division has become history for Sony, the company continues to be a strong player in the tech industry with its various offerings.
Seeking Alpha writer Nick Cox wrote that the movie arm of the well-known Japanese company will be ending Sony's year strongly. The company has produced a hit in War Room, and upcoming titles such as Hotel Transylvania 2 and Ghostbusters are also expected to gross high in the box office.
War Room's grosses in the United States reached $11 million on its first week, Cox stated. The movie cost Sony only $3 million. The recently shown Pixels, though somewhat underwhelming, is not likely to bring losses to the company. The upcoming James Bond movie, top-billed by Daniel Craig, is already deemed a sure hit at the box office worldwide.
Apart from the movies which are predicted to be hit as early as now, Sony's gaming device range is consistently doing very well in sales. Reports over the recent months indicated that the company's gaming console, the PS4, has outsold Microsoft's Xbox One by almost two times its sales. The PS4 has reportedly reached 25 million units sold already.
Also, the company has just released its new range of Xperia Z5 smartphones. The range includes three new phones, namely the Z5 Compact, the Z5 and the Z5 Premium. The Z5 Premium is equipped with a 23-megapixel camera, which many say is the device's selling point. And so far, reviews have mostly been positive for the device, as well as other Sony mobile models.
All in all, it is a good year for Sony. The company's debts have decreased significantly, and its products are performing very well in international and local markets. Plus there are new movies to watch out for, which will be carrying through until the following year.
