In the field of home audio, Samsung is taking its aim on Sonos as it released new 360-degree audio speakers on Monday. The new device is a wireless and more portable iteration of the company's earlier speaker systems and boasts of better performance than its earlier designs. The new release is another one of Samsung's announcements of upcoming products this week.
The three-speaker system, comprised of the R1, R3 and R5 speakers, have been shown to consumers in the Berlin-held IFA event. According to an article of PanArmenian.Net on the matter, the new speakers do not sport the trademark egg shape previous speaker models of the company have. The speakers, instead, have a tube-like shape. The multi-room speakers use ring-radiator technology to blast sounds all over the room.
The Korean tech major has been improving the Multiroom App for Android and iOS, which is used to control the speakers. Physical controls are also included in operating the sound system. The buttons are located on the speakers' top panels, allowing users to pause, play, adjust volume and switch sound sources. The new devices come in different colors and are said to be available on the last part of the year. The prices of the Wireless 360 Audio Models, which range from $199 to $399 for each speaker is comparable to that of the Sonos technology.
"With these additional models we are bringing a new kind of high-quality sound to the market, with design that is simple, yet premium, and offers a more intuitive user interface," Samsung vice president Jurack Chae was quoted as saying. The new Wireless 360 Audio system will be made available in the U.S. and the U.K. by the end of the year. No announcements have been made regarding the system's availability in other parts of the world.
These past few days, Samsung has shown a variety of products in the IFA. The Samsung Gear S2 has been highly anticipated by smartwatch fans and followers of the Korean tech company. Samsung has earlier been reported to launch the world's first UHD Blu-ray player. The company said that for Samsung, this year's IFA is all about the Internet of Things.
