Microsoft Is Set To Launch Its Surface Pro 4 and Windows Phones This October

Microsoft has 'some exciting news to share about Windows 10 devices,' and such signs point out that the Surface Pro 4 and Windows 10 phones are what's cooking. The Redmond-based company has sent out invitations to the press for the much-awaited event to be held on Oct. 6 at Moynihan Station in New York.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 has long been out in the market since June of last year, about 15 months since then. Most are expecting that a successor to Redmond's ultra-convertible will be unveiled at the said event. The Surface Pro 4 is expected to have the same form factor as that of its predecessor, and will have Intel's latest Skylake processor to deliver much faster performance.

This will come as a perfect chance for Microsoft to one-up their long-time rival, Apple, as the Cupertino-based company has recently released a direct competitor to the Surface Pro line-up, the monolithic 12.9" iPad Pro complete with an Apple Pencil and aimed to the enterprise.

Leaks and rumors incoming from different sources about a flagship-grade smartphone lead to speculations that Microsoft will also be unveiling two new handsets, namely the Lumia 950 and the 950 XL that have gone with codenames Talkman and Cityman, respectively. Reports suggest that both handsets will come in a polycarbonate plastic body, metallic frames, AMOLED panels and QHD resolution. Internals are also expected to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. USB Type-C is also expected to be integrated to future-proof both devices.

For those who want to get it the news fresh and hot off the oven, Microsoft will be live streaming the event at their website. Watch it live Tuesday, Oct 6 at 10:00 am EDT online. The company is even kind enough to help you set-up a reminder on your calendars so you won't have to miss it.
