Social networking sites have already become a staple for anyone with internet, and any malfunction that affects it is bound to affect its many users. In the case of microblogging site Twitter, a considerably large number of users from different parts of the world have seen the massive outage that left the Twitter website inaccessible to desktop users.
According to USA Today, While mobile users have not been affected by the outage, the incident is considered a massive issue as it has affected Twitter members from Milwaukee to Spain. Also, the outage has been found to be down in much of Europe. The site has also been inaccessible to users in Canada and North America during the time of the outage.
The outage reportedly began on Monday, Sept 14 about 11:22 am Pacific Time. Users have begun receiving notifications from the microblogging site saying, "Something is technically wrong." An hour later, the site indicated in a tweet that "The issue is now resolved." The mobile app and Tweetdeck, which lets users see multiple Twitter browsers all at the same time, have been left unaffected.
The microblogging platform has not disclosed the cause of the outage as of yet. Twitter spokesperson Lauren Jones said that the outage ended at 12:16 pm Pacific time on the same day. Late last month, on Aug 31, the microblogging site has also experienced an outage that lasted for less than an hour. Twitter Status has similarly indicated that the issue has been fixed but has not disclosed the cause of the outage.
From the month of Aug to Sept, Twitter has listed three separate occasions in which the site has been subjected to some technical difficulties. Two of the incidents have taken place within days of each other, on Aug 28 and Aug 31. The problems vary in duration, and while the most recent outage seems to have lasted the longest, reports say that these outages are getting increasingly rare.
