The video messaging app Snapchat has begun rolling out its latest update to add two new features to its user base. Users can now pay for replays to watch snaps for a fee, and a new feature called the 'Lenses' adds fun to selfies.
The option to replay snaps costs $0.99 for every three. Ten replays costs $2.99, while 20 goes as much as $4.99. Although Snapchat has allowed this feature previously on the platform, the app has been letting its users to replay an already-viewed snap once per day. This also marks as Snapchat's first in-app purchase since its launch.
This adds another stream of revenue for Snapchat, whereas the first two are from its Discover partnerships and advertisements in Snapchat stories. Mobile apps have generated big revenues with in-app purchases, and this business model could mean that it is only one of the many plans of the company.
Snapchat also debuts its new Lenses feature to keep its platform fresh and fun. Using the feature is quite easy -- when on selfie mode, pressing and holding on the user's face will activate Lenses. Users can play around with the feature by selecting an animation sitting right at the bottom row of the screen.
There are several options for the user to choose from: add hearts to the user's eyes, transform the screen with a robotic heads up display, make rainbows come out of the user's mouth, add wrinkles and a monocle, transform the user into a horrifying figure, add googly eyes and expand the mouth. Thanks to this feature for it's all there.
Snapchat has plans to keep it dynamic and fresh by removing one each day and replacing it with something new to give its users more fun and time to play with the feature. It's a truly fun feature that can work hand in hand with replays as it adds to the value of each snap.
