Two-Factor Authentication Now Available On iTunes

Apple is beefing up its security measures by releasing a new iTunes update alongside the release of iOS9. Version 12.3 of iTunes is set to add a feature that adds a layer of protection by enabling two-factor authentication.

The 233MB update also improves Apple Music accessibility with VoiceOver, and contains bug fixes that address problems in playing songs, radio stations not appearing within Recently Played and songs that are 'loved' on iOS devices not syncing back with iTunes properly. The update also adds support for devices with iOS9 and Mac OS X El Capital. Improvements to overall stability and performance are added as well.

This marks as the first major update for the company's popular software since late of June. Users can download the update by going to the iTunes website or clicking on the Software Update option in the Mac App Store now.

Apple is on its course in strengthening its security by adding two-factor authentication to its software and services. Both iMessage and FaceTime came with the said verification in February, after iCloud websites and apps supported it July of last year.

The company had originally released the additional layer of protection to Apple IDs two years ago. However, not everyone who owns an iCloud account is using it as the 'Celebgate' issue last year was a clear sign of it.

Two-factor verification, which is also known as 2FA, is one of the most effective ways in securing accounts. It adds an extra step to the user's basic log-in process by sending an SMS, voice call, or e-mail with a string of numbers and letters to your preferred contact number or e-mail address. There are also tokens that generate a unique password that changes in different intervals as another preemptive measure to secure accounts.

The most popular platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo!, Google, Outlook, Steam and more have been using two-factor verification in order to strengthen the security of their users' accounts.
