Vinyl fans probably find it difficult to look for their favorite item. Even over the internet, there are not many re-sellers of vinyl records, which are memoirs of the classic years and timeless music. It's a good thing that popular vinyl re-selling site Discogs is accessible for fans and collectors of the item. But accessing the site via the internet can also be a pain.
Now, the Discogs has launched its very own dedicated mobile app. Stoney Roads reported that visitors who access the Discogs site via mobile have brought equal, and often more, traffic to the website. It's only a matter of time before users ask for an app that's easily accessible. And they have, over the past few years. The app will be available for both Android and iOS devices.
Engadget notes that iPhone users have the third party app, MilkCrate, which helps the device have direct access to the website and syncs the user's collection. However, Android users need a more mobile-friendly platform to check on prices of the albums, which are often out of print already. Searching the titles on Amazon will not work in such cases.
According to The Vinyl Factory, the new app will be modeled after MilkCrate. Discogs for iOS and Android will be able to catalogue collections, allow users to see pricing for the items and search music in the database, among other things. Also, a wishlist feature will be coming to the app. MilkCrate has a barcode scanner which lets users add to their collection. It is still not clear whether the new Discogs app will be having the feature as well.
The beta for the iOS app will be available beginning on Sept. 24, Thursday. The Android app beta will be available for users in October. The apps are scheduled for release early next year. Currently, the beta versions are not able to accommodate and make purchases or communicate. Buying vinyl records will redirect the user to the Discogs website.
