Investors Want Jack Dorsey To Stay As Twitter Head

Microblogging site Twitter still does not have a permanent chief operating officer months after Dick Costolo left the position. The 52-year-old Costolo left the post in July this year, and for now, Jack Dorsey has taken over as interim chief of the social platform. Dorsey is among the list of candidates the Twitter board is currently choosing from for the CEO position.

The 38-year-old Jack Dorsey also seems to be the most likely choice for the position. According to Times of India, many personalities from Twitter and Square, which Dorsey also heads, are vocal about supporting Dorsey as the Twitter chief executive officer. A concern some have raised in mentioning Dorsey as a frontrunner for CEO is that his job as the head of Square may make him too busy to lead Twitter as well.

But investors for both Square and Twitter are already publicly expressing that they think Dorsey is the right man to manage both the microblogging site and mobile payments company. "After watching Jack execute on his vision at Square, and more recently at Twitter as CEO, we are highly confident in Jack's ability to serve as CEO of both companies," A spokesperson for Rizvi Traverse said. Rizvi is one of Twitter's biggest investors, so the company's support for Dorsey is very important.

Roelof Botha, a board member of Square, also expressed support saying that he thinks Dorsey is the "founder of both companies". Early Twitter investor Chris Sacca has been actively pushing Dorsey's name to be the chief executive officer of the microblogging site. Other board members also said that they have nothing against Dorsey taking the position, should that indeed happen.

If Jack Dorsey were to be appointed CEO of Twitter, he will not be the first to work as chief for two companies at the same time. Late Apple CEO Steve Jobs has juggled between managing Pixar and the US tech company. Elon Musk is head of both Tesla and SpaceX. While three months may seem like a long time for appointing a CEO, Twitter is still on pace since Microsoft took six months to appoint Satya Nadella after Steve Ballmer resigned from the position.

A recent update from Recode reported that Jack Dorsey will be named permanent CEO of the microblogging site. As of this writing, Twitter and Square have not yet commented.
