Days after Samsung made a huge success in its hometown when it sold 2000 units of its Galaxy S2 smartwatches, the South Korean tech giant has announced that they will be bringing the Gear S2 smartwatch in the United States this Friday. The Samsung Gear S2 will be offered in two variants: a "Classic" that features a timeless leather strap and a standard model built for the sport demographic.
Both variants of the Samsung Gear S2 will be available from Samsung's official website, alongside Amazon, Best Buy, and Macy's. As for the price, the Classic variant will go on sale for $349.00, while the standard version will be sold for $299.00. Both smartwatches carry the very exact specifications, save for the straps both accessories come with.
The Gear S2 marks as Samsung's first foray in the world of circular smartwatches, putting it in the direct competition with Motorola's Moto 360 (2015). The latter of which also has the same starting price at $299.00, with prices going up relatively according to variants. Other smartwatches with circular watchfaces also include the LG G Watch R and Watch Urbane, and the Huawei Watch. The only difference that sets Samsung's offerings from other smartwatches in the spectrum is its operating system. It runs on Samsung's very own Tizen.
The Gear S2 is not exclusive to Galaxy devices. Instead, Samsung has opted to make it compatible with Android smartphones that are running on Android 4.4 KitKat and above with at least 1.5GB of RAM. Although, the South Korean tech giant notes it will have more features to show when it is paired with the company's line of Galaxy smartphones.
Samsung also says that they partnered with popular Italian designer Alessandro Mendini to bring his taste, humor, and sense of color to the Gear S2. Samsung has also partnered with other companies to bring their apps such as Nike+ Running, Twitter Trends, Line, and more to the Gear S2.
