Youtube iOS Update Gets One Star Reviews

Google has recently rolled out a Youtube app update for iOS. The app has a redesigned user interface, which has been getting some dismal reviews from users, who, apparently, are not very pleased with the new look. Youtube is another Google app which introduces the company's "Material Design," now familiar to followers and users of the search giant's apps.

According to iPhone Hacks, the redesigned Youtube app sports a huge red bar on top of the app. The app has been pummelled with one-star reviews because of the new look. The update also has navigation problems. It requires additional taps and swipes to get to other features, and the additional motions are deemed unnecessary by users. "Basically, this update got rid of all of the simple functionality that the app had, and replaced it with big pictures and pretty colors." One review read.

Other feedbacks call the updated design "horrendous" and "awful." Adding to the dismay is how Google did not add iOS-specific features for the app instead of redesigning the user interface, which brought more problems to users than help them get around easier. The new update is reported to not even be able to support Slide Over and Split View.

A rather useful update that came with the roll out is allowing users to edit videos. The update offers users tools to trim video clips and add music and filters before uploading their videos. This is quite similar to the tools found on iMovie. While the update is a useful one, it has been overpowered by the flat aesthetics of the "Material Design." which, apparently, does not work well in iOS. That is what users think at least.

A Tech Crunch report shows some harsh tweets regarding the update. One tweet read, "The YouTube app updated on iOS and now half the screen is taken up by an obnoxious red bar 20x thicker than it needs to be." A feedback on the design also said, "How not to design an interface."

Using Youtube on iOS lately? Well, what do you think?
