Sony PS4 Will Have Lower Cost For The Holidays

On Oct. 8, Thursday, Japanese company Sony is getting ready for the holidays. The popular hardware company has announced a holiday lineup in which its PlayStation 4 bundles are being sold at lower prices. Just in time for the gift-giving season, the gaming console and packages may just come to households, at least in the United States and Canada, soon because of their affordable new prices.

The company announced on its blog post that beginning Oct. 9, Friday, the gaming device can be purchased at a price of US$349.99, or CAD$429.99. VP of Platforms Marketing John Koller stated in the post, "Our goal at PlayStation has always been to provide the best gameplay experiences at the best value, and we feel this new compelling price will open the doors to even more gamers that have yet to purchase a system." Koller also said that the company is pleased that the PS4 has been gaining more and more supporters.

Sony has also announced a price drop for six PS4 bundles. The UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection PS4 Bundle costs $349.99 USD/$429.99 CAD. The Limited Edition Call of Duty: Black Ops III 1TB PS4 Bundle, which will be released on Nov. 6, costs $429.99 USD/$499.99 CAD. The Limited Edition Disney Infinity 3.0: Star Wars PS4 Bundle, available beginning Nov. 13, costs $399.99 USD/$469.99 CAD.

The Limited Edition Star Wars Battlefront PS4 Bundle and Star Wars Battlefront PS4 Bundle will both be available come Nov. 17. The bundles are priced at $399.99 USD/$469.99 CAD and $349.99 USD/$429.99 CAD, respectively. The NHL 16 PS4 Bundle is now available in Canada only for $429.99 CAD .

The PlayStation 4's new price is the same as that of Microsoft Xbox One, International Business Times points out. The price cut is the first permanent price decrease of the PS4, and it has been expected to happen after the company has announced to cut the price of the console in Japan's Tokyo Games Show last month. The Xbox One has begun selling for $349.99 since June this year.

Sony's game console is the best-selling console in the gaming market. The device has reached more than $25 million units in sales earlier this year. While Microsoft has not confirmed the figures of the Xbox One's sales, reports put it at about 13 million units. Nintendo WiiU comes in third at 10 million units. Sony hopes to maintain this lead and even increase it as the holiday season comes.
