Samsung Aims To Keep Tizen Afloat With The Z3

Tizen, the new open-source operating system heralded by Samsung, has been receiving heavy attention as of late. It was kicked off by Samsung's budget-friendly Tizen Z1, and it is the platform of choice for Samsung's all new Gear S2 smartwatch.

Tizen, however was originally expected to come out with much flair, but device offering is still limited at the moment that it hasn't gained huge attraction in the smartphone strata as of yet. Fortunately, Samsung still has plans for the platform as it releases a smartphone in the mid-range category, the Z3.

The Samsung Z3 looks as if it's a downsized Note V - it carries a design language to that of the great phablet, save for the S-pen. For starters, Samsung's latest phone is a 5-inches with a 720p resolution, its internals are packed with Spreadtrum chipset with a 1.3GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded with up to 128GB of microSD storage. Samsung fitted the Z3 with a primary 8MP shooter and a 5MP selfie snapper. Although these specifications aren't what anyone would call flagship calibre in today's standards, it would keep Tizen relevant until the next (and hopefully high-end) variant comes.

The Samsung Z3 will start selling this month for 8490 Rupees and will be directed to the Indian market. Samsung has already shifted one million units of Z1 in the country a couple of months after it was officially unveiled. Samsung hopes to add more into those figures with the higher-specced Z3.

Samsung has established its market dominance in the smartphone race over the years - it has, ever since, embodied Google's mobile operating system since the Galaxy S days of yore. And to this day, the South Korean tech giant has been heavily associated with Android. Although, the company has already started investing in its new operating system to move away from the ubiquitous Android platform, and its collection is slowly but steadily growing.
