Samsung Delivers Promise Of Monthly Updates For Its Mobile Devices

During the Stagefright incident, Korean tech giant Samsung has promised that it will issue updates to its users every month. And it seems that the company has made good on its promise.

The Stagefright malware has given Android users a scare, as it has left their devices exposed and vulnerable to hackers. The malware has made tech reports online on July this year, following announcements that Google has already issued fixes for select devices to get rid of Stagefright. Some Nexus devices have already gotten the monthly fixes to ensure that the vulnerability has been taken care of, and that security may be beefed up.

According to a report from Zee News India, Samsung has quietly released a website in which security updates for its devices can be found. Although only limited, issuing the updates is a step forward for the Korean manufacturer.

Samsung has long been notorious for rollng out snail-paced updates to its users. The updates Samsung is rolling out go through many rounds of testing before they actually get issued to fix problems with the devices. Samsung will be using its 'Mobile Security Blog' to announce schedules of update roll outs and which devices will be getting them.

Some of the devices which will get security updates include the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+. Some models from the Note series, like the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 5 will also be getting updates. The company's tablet range, which includes Galaxy Tab S and Galaxy Tab S2, are also joining the list of devices to get updates.

Samsung is also known to bring users a heavily customized Android experience. The manufacturer has been reported to include a huge amount of unnecessary preloaded software in its devices, which has also affected the performance of its products. While issuing monthly updates is a good step for the company, it leaves much to be seen whether Samsung will be able to efficiently deliver.
