Although the online video streaming service business is fast becoming a competitive industry as more and more platforms begin publishing content, for many users, YouTube is still the leading name in online video streaming. The recent months have seen big names such as Facebook attempt to get a hand on the video streaming service. The social networking site is even reported to be alloting a section dedicated to videos. But YouTube is managing to keep things fresh and exciting.
The Google-owned service has recently announced a video game content platform, which has received relatively good reception. Up next for the video streaming service is a subscription service, in which users pay a US$10 monthly fee to see pay-to-view content. Although this sounds like a downer, users will not have to worry because YouTube will be continuing its free website, says a Tech Times report.
The new subscription service will be formally introduced at YouTube's Oct. 21 event, which will also unveil new content for the subscribers. Subscriptions allow users to view the pay-to-view content ad-free and in premium quality. YouTube is reported to be focusing on more child-friendly content for its younger audience using the new subscription service. Funding for other new content is still ongoing. They can be watched in 2016.
The video service has intended to provide support for its top content makers and has been making plans for it since last year. According to a Bidness Etc. report, the paid subscription stemmed from the planning. Also, the new service has come about because the site was unsuccessful in getting big celebrities like rapper Jay-Z and actor Ashton Kutcher to make unique content for the platform. One hundred million dollars were shelled out in the process.
Media companies like 21st Century Fox and Comcast have already signed with YouTube. Walt Disney is also in talks for making unique content for the platform. Its Oct. 21 event will be held in Los Angeles. The online video service will be divulging more details about its new service and content in the event.
