For impatient people with money to spare, same-day deliveries are being offered by e-commerce giants so that their customers would get their items delivered to them without wasting daylight. Apparently, Etsy has already jumped in the trend as it announces that it will be debuting a new program called the Etsy ASAP. As its name suggests, the new program allows shoppers of the platform to request same-day deliveries from Etsy sellers in New York, albeit for a price.
Etsy ASAP will be delivering its products via logitistics company Postmates. According to reports, ASAP deliveries will cost about USD $20. It's a bit steeper when compared to the competition. Amazon's Prime Now doesn't charge a fee when it comes to deliveries with a two-hour window, while a fee of USD $7.99 comes for a one-hour delivery duration. Google's Express also offers a free same-day delivery for eligble orders, with minimums required, however, to avail of the free feature. Postmates on the other hand offers one-hour deliveries starting at USD $5 with considerations to the distance and a nine percent service fee.
Buyers who want to use Etsy ASAP can do so by choosing the new ASAP option when checking out with their items. However, the popular artisan marketplace isn't hiring a contractor workforce for its deliveries. Rather, Etsy integrates Postmate's API into their website and mobile app to work. Etsy says that it will allow its sellers to adjust their pickup availability easily.
Etsy sellers that receive orders can request a pickup from their Orders page. Afterwards, Postmates will dispatch its nearest courier for the delivery. It is important to note that the sellers will not be able to control the products that are available for ASAP delivery and when, and the actual product selection will change accordingly.
There are many cost-effective alternatives that have been offering the service. Thus, Etsy's new program may not be able to generate high demand for their sellers' merchandise on the platform or customers would switch to the competition that have lesser fees.
