The 18.4-Inch Samsung Galaxy View Goes Official

Samsung never stops on expanding its portfolio of smartphones and tablets - that it has easily managed to dominate the spectrum and gain the crown as the world's biggest smartphone manufacturer. From powerhouse smartphones to eye-candy tablets, smartphone offerings have become so ubiquitous that people will more often than not see products with their names. The latest device they offer somewhat takes on a different market, however, as the South Korean tech giant recently unveiled a monumental 18-inch Android tablet, dubbed as the Galaxy View.

The Samsung Galaxy View was first teased at IFA 2015 in Berlin. Now that it has gone official, the fog has now cleared, and details and specifications have now come to light. Samsung's latest offering features a massive 18.4" TFT LCD display with a 1080p resolution, giving it a 123ppi pixel density. It's not that dense compared to tablets with UHD displays, but it's sharp enough to provide a pleasing viewing experience.

With its size, the Samsung Galaxy View is bound to be heavy. At 2.65 kg, it's not something consumers would lug inside their backpacks and carry throughout. As such, it features a handle to give way to easy carrying. It also has a rubber feet at its bottom to keep it from sliding, and there's also a two-way stand at the back so it can be propped on a surface.

According to Samsung, the 5,700 mAh battery rating of the Galaxy View can deliver eight hours of continuous video playback. There's also a duo of 4W speakers at the back to power the audio. Apparently, this kind of setup is Samsung's way of targeting people who stream and watch movies through apps such as Hulu, Netflix, HBO Go and HBO Now, and the like.

As far as the specifications go, the Galaxy View is equipped with 1.6 GHz octa-core CPU and 2 GB of RAM. Internal storage go with 32 GB and 64 GB options, and users will also be able to expand it via a micro-SD card slot. There's a 2.1 MP camera upfront the device built for video messaging and selfies/groufies, and there's a nano-SIM slot for LTE connectivity.
