Australian Cybersecurity Could Improve

Cybersecurity is vital to any country. Having good cybersecurity means safety for the residents as well. Analyses have regularly been made on cybersecurity in different parts of the world, as cyberattacks have become more frequent over the recent years and months.

A recent analysis done by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute has revealed that while some countries have retained their high rankings in terms of cybersecurity, others have dropped. Australia has dropped two slots from being the third placer in cyber maturity rankings last year. According to a report from iTnews, despite scoring a higher ranking this year, the country has fallen behind the likes of Japan, Singapore and South Korea.

Australia has scored a 79.9 this year. Last year, the country has garnered 75.8. According to Sky News, while the country garnered points for participating in international discussions about cybersecurity, the military's lack of engagement in the area has also cost points for Australia. The ASPI ranks cyber maturity based on engagement in private and public sectors, financial cybercrime and military engagement in security among other bases.

The report has found that communication between the industry and the government could be improved to better cybersecurity in the country. "Australia continues to improve the political, business and social elements of its cyber maturity," the report has stated. "The country has sustained its role as a regional leader in multilateral forums on cyber security."

While this has been said about the country, the report also stated, "Australia's score could improve with the release of a new cyber strategy and a more streamlined cyber policy structure to complement the country's operational cyber improvements."

The United States has garnered the top rank with a score of 90.7. Japan, South Korea and Singapore have gotten the succeeding rankings. New Zealand has garnered sixth place among the 20 countries ranked by the analysis.
