With a number of flagship Android smartphones now capable of shooting photographs in RAW format, thereby increasing the room for users to edit their shot images in a close-to-professional fashion. However, while the Google Play Store has a massive library of photo editing apps, the majority of them would unlikely work with RAW files. As such, Google has seen it fit to update its homegrown photo editing app Snapseed to edit RAW files in its uncompressed form.
According to reports, Google's Snapseed has now made it a whole lot easier to process RAW images through smartphones. Images in DNG format in particular can be edited now through the Google-owned photo editing app.
Google first introduced the option to shoot photographs in RAW format back when the search engine giant introduced Android 5.0 Lollipop. From that moment onwards, photographers that use their smartphones to take photos can capture them in their minimally processed forms, retaining most of the image's data. Now that Google has already begun rolling out the update for Snapseed, editing uncompressed images on the go is now a possibility.
The latest version of Snapseed brings precise control of editing photos in a professional scale, which was previously only done in desktop computers and laptops. Now with the app, users will be able to adjust an image's exposure and white balance, tweak shadows and highlights, and add structure in DNG RAW format. Users can also tune images automatically or add depth and vibrancy that uniquely adapts to the colors with the Ambience feature. Furthermore, enhancing details of photographs can help the images' subjects pop out and stand out.
Besides the set of tools featured in Snapseed, the photo editing app also features a selection of filters to add style to images. Lens Blur allows users to blur and adjust parts of the images to draw the attention of the subject. Glamour Glow, as its name suggests, adds glow to the image that can be useful for fashion photography.
