YouTube Kids, a branch of YouTube designed for kids and toddlers, is a welcomed addition in the world today. It allows parents to rest with ease knowing that it is specially designed for children with curious minds. Content was carefully filtered out - from educational shows to entertainment for kids. The app has been a delight for both parents and children alike. However, its availability was only limited to residents in the United States, leaving other regions out of the family-friendly app. With over eight million downloads and more screen time, Google thinks that it could get more attraction by bringing it outside the United States.
According to reports, users in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom can now download YouTube Kids. Furthermore, the app for the United Kingdom and Ireland will emphasize their local channels such as the most famous children brands, including Morph, Teletubbies, Wallace & Grommit and The Magic. In other countries however, YouTube Kids will have the same shows as the one in the United States.
However, country availability isn't the only thing Google brought in its latest update for YouTube Kids. The app can now allow users to watch YouTube Kids on bigger screens using Chromecast, Apple TV, consoles, or a Smart TV.
There are even new videos with guest-curated playlists from educational channels such as National Geographic Kids, Kid Present and Geena Davis' girl power-themed playlist. Amy Poehler's Smart Girls and Vsauce are also expected to come out soon. Furthermore, new videos are continuously uploaded to YouTube Kids every day, providing more shows for kids and parents alike.
For parents, YouTube Kids will explain right from the start how it chooses and recommends content. Also, as parents prefer a personal passcode instead of a spelled out string of code, Google now allows passcode customization. Also, Google acknowledges that YouTube Kids isn't always perfect. As such, parents can flag content if deemed necessary.
