Zarooq Unveils The Sand Racer

The automotive manufacturing company Zarooq based in the UAE unveils an off-road car concept known as the Sand Racer after a Formula One event in Abu Dhabi. The vehicle is designed for off-road racing and has a price tag of $100,000.

The Lamborghini Urus concept SUV is a utility vehicle that marks the entry to the SUV categroy of the supercar manufacturer that is based in Italy. However, the Italians' vehicle looks road-oriented rather than off-road.

Zarooq, a Middle-East vehicle manufacturing company based in the UAE, hopes to be the first vehicle manufacturer in Dubai. On the other hand, there is another car manufacturer based in the same country called W Motors. Unlike Zarooq, the company is known to make supercars like the Lykan and the Fenyr, in which its cars are manufactured in Turin, Italy.

There is a link between both vehicle manufacturers in the name of a British car designer Anthony Jannarelly. He is the person responsible for the aggressive look of Zarooq's Sand Racer as well as the look of W Motors' Fenyr Supersport and Lykan Hypersport.

The company, Zarooq, also plans to establish a racing series for off-road vehicles in Dubai that will feature sand racing. The race track that the company will build will also be used as a tourist spot and for corporate events. The plan is for the sand race course to spell "Dubai" in Arabic when viewed up from the sky.

Features of the Zarooq Sand Racer come with a modified chassis that has a curb weight just around 2,300 pounds. It has a 3.5-liter V6 engine mounted in the cabin that sends power to the rear wheels. It has a peak output of 300 horsepower with a six-speed automatic transmission with air-conditioning.

However, there are plans to design a 400 and 500 horsepower version, and carbon-fiber options for the vehicle are available to make it even lighter rather than using the standard fiberglass body. The vehicles will be finished this month with a debut that follows in 2016.
