Swedish multi-national manufacturing company AB Volvo will be debuting its S90 luxury sedan at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. The car is said to be a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle that comes with autonomous driving features and collision detectors.
Numerous autonomous and semi-autonomous driving technology are starting to rise in the car-making industry rather rapidly, and luxury carmaker Volvo is now one of them. The Swedish carmaker will be launching a luxury sedan to feature semi-autonomous driving system with hybrid technology.
The Volvo S90 is not an all-electric vehicle but a plug-in hybrid EV. Running through the car's features and specifications, it seems that the new luxury vehicle is intended to compete in the premium sedan category. The S90 could also be considered a rival of the Tesla Model S hybrid luxury liftback. However, there are some evident dissimilarities when it comes to electric range, performance and pricing.
Volvo's S90 is also fortified with Pilot Assist, an advanced semi-autonomous driving feature. Pilot Assist gives gentle steering feedbacks to keep the car aligned properly within road markings up to highway speeds of around 130 kilometers per hour and does not require any more to follow another vehicle. The system is a key innovation for Volvo as Pilot Assist is another step headed for full self-navigation drive.
The luxury sedan comes with a powerful T8 twin engine along with a hybrid plug-in powertrain. The car also will be featuring a luxurious interior with connected infotainment systems as it enters the large sedan category. In addition, the car has a collision detection system capable of working with large moving animals such as cows, elks, moose and so on.
Volvo Senior Vice President of Design Thomas Ingenlath states that the S90's idea was to bring something new and deliver a visual expression that radiates confidence and leadership on its exterior. In the interior, the company has taken the S90 to the next level as it will be delivering topnotch luxury experience that promises control and comfort.
