The Google Life Sciences Division has been rebranded by the company's holdings firm known as Alphabet Inc. The division from the Google X project will now act as an independent company and will be known as Verily.
Alphabet Inc.'s rebranding the division to Verily will be moving away from the tech hulk and will become an independent firm. The renamed Google division used to be a part of Google's secret laboratory known as Google X.
Verily as an independent company will be working on developing innovations for health and medicine. The company will be running without the supervision of the scientist and entrepreneur Astro Teller on projects concerning disease cure and human conditions.
Former head of Google Life Sciences Andy Conrad will be the new chief executive officer of Verily. Alphabet has been keeping former Google division heads as newly appointed CEOs as to avoid upheavals in management.
Biotech company Calico LLC will also be separated from the rebranded Verily. The separated biotech company will be continuing their research focused on human longevity under the supervision of former Genentech Chief Executive Officer Arthur Levinson.
In Verily's introductory video, the company talks about preventing human ailments before it blows out. The company states that they would like to be proactive in healthcare rather than reactive, and it offers an array of personal healthcare that recognizes the human body.
Verily publicized on its website that the company's multidisciplinary teams have access to the most advanced research tools in addition to the division's technical expertise and extensive computing power. The company will be working with partners across the healthcare industry in an array of research fields to develop new medical technology, launch experiments and put up new healthcare companies in the future.
Although the ideas presented by Verily are vague, the Life Sciences division has developed innovations in the healthcare industry like spoons for people suffering from tremors, a contact lens that can tract glucose levels, a fitness-tracking wristband and a disease detecting platform. These are only a few of the former Google division's contribution to the healthcare industry and will be making more innovations in the future as the rebranded division solely focuses on human health.
