Windows 10 Now Installed On 10 Million Devices; Free Upgrade Offer Ends On July 29

Microsoft Vice-President (Windows and Device Group) Yusuf Mehdi has announced through a recent blog post that the tech firm's most recent operating system, Windows 10, has already been installed on more than 300 million active devices worldwide.

The announcement comes in the wake of the news that Windows 10 now enjoys about 14.5 percent market share among all computers by the end of April and also close to its launch anniversary. In his blog post, Mehdi also shared information on how users are currently adopting Windows 10 more rapidly and also using it more and more.

In March, Microsoft had divulged that users spent over 63 billion minutes on the Edge browser of the operating system, showing a 50 percent increase over the previous quarter. On the other hand, Windows 10 digital personal assistant Cortana is said to have answered over 6 billion questions since its launch. Moreover, users have played more than 9 billion hours of video games on Windows 10 during the same period of time.

According to Microsoft, apps accompanying the Windows 10 are also posting vigorous user figures to the tune of several millions every month, especially Photos are drawing more than 144 million people every month. At the same time, the Windows Store is also experiencing continuous growth, as latest apps are being built especially for the Universal Windows platform, while updates to all such apps as well as new games being regularly added to the online store, Tech Times reported.

Meanwhile, Mehdi noted that even the free upgrade offer to the existing Windows 7 as well as Windows 8.1 users is reaching its end rapidly. The offer will continue until July 29 -- just less than three months from now. Hence, users who are still contemplating of whether or not to upgrade to Windows 10 will be required to arrive at a decision soon.

Once the free upgrade offer for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 end-users, they will be required to pay for the Windows 10, which could then be obtained by acquiring a new device or by purchasing Windows 10 Home, which will carry a price tag of $119.

It is worth noting here that Windows 10 growth somewhat slowed down in April, since it only gained a 0.20 percent increase in market share from 14.15 percent in March. On the other hand, since the release of Windows 10, the market share of Windows 7 has dropped below majority for the first time.
