MIT's collaboration with hair and skin company Living Proof and Olivo Labs have given way to elevating the market status of the under-eye cream to that of offering youthful skin. The document was initially published in Nature Materials magazine, titled "An elastic second skin."
Gizmodo says that the cream, called XPL, could be applied in two steps. Polysiloxane components make up the first application, while the platinum catalytic action for the second application allows the polymers from the first layer to connect. A strong film results from the first and second applications, plus it would not easily wear off up to a day.
Other than its durable nature, the cross-linked polymer layer (XPL) can also minimize moisture loss, especially on older people. The cream's potential as an anti-aging cream makes it useful to taut the skin, leading to wrinkle-free younger-looking skin.
MIT's second skin cream can be visibly stretched to almost double than that of normal aging human skin without signs of sagging or damage. However, upon testing, the group also noted on the XPL material's ability to lessen loose areas under the subject's eyes and reduce those bags. Let us wait and see.
