‘Star Wars Battlefront 2’ May Include 'Rogue One' And 'The Force Awakens' Movie Elements

Avid fans of "Star Wars" video games will be happy with the latest news. EA has announced that "Star Wars Battlefront 2" is currently in development and has been slated for a 2017 release.

EA made the announcement during its latest earnings report and investors call, VG247 reports. The gaming company did not disclose further information on the upcoming "Star Wars Battlefront 2." However, EA's CFO Blake Jorgensen stated during the investor's call that the "Star Wars Battlefront" sequel will feature "bigger and better worlds." He also hinted that some elements from the new "Star Wars" movies will be incorporated into the upcoming game.

The first "Star Wars Battlefront" game only featured elements from the original "Star Wars" trilogy, as stated in the same report. Although it did include a planet Jakku map setting. Avid "Star Wars" fans may recall that the said planet was first introduced in the movie "The Force Awakens."

EA's Jorgensen did not mention which of the new movies will make it to "Star Wars Battlefront 2." Speculations posted on PureXbox indicated that the recent films "The Force Awakens" and "Rogue" may likely be used for the "Star Wars Battlefront" sequel. Apart from confirming game development and launch date news for "Star Wars Battlefront 2," EA has also revealed its plans to release new "Star Wars" games "for the next three to four years."

One of these upcoming "Star Wars" games include a title being developed by Visceral Games, as indicated in the same report. Amy Hennig, former creative director for the "Uncharted" game series, has been tasked to handle the project. The Visceral-developed "Star Wars" game is expected to be released in 2018.

On the other hand, EA has also recently partnered with Respawn Entertainment to develop a separate "Star Wars" game. The announcement was made by EA's Executive Vice President Patrick Soderlund in a statement posted on EA's website in early May. Soderlund did not disclose details for the "Star Wars" game that Respawn will develop. It is highly likely that the Respawn-developed game may be scheduled for release after the launch of Visceral's "Star Wars" game.

Gamers would have to look forward to upcoming news to learn more about EA's new "Star Wars" game titles. Meanwhile, "Star Wars Battlefront 2" has been slated for a 2017 launch date.
