The new trailer for the "Call of Duty" game gets shot down by gamers and fans alike, as it becomes one of those popularly disliked videos on YouTube. Although the video has been viewed around 16 million times, it also gathered up to more than a million negative responses.
The premise for "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" shies away from its military-action nature and instead takes place in a rather new, sci-fi setting, BBC reports. Each year, "Call of Duty" sells millions of copies making it one of gaming world's high-selling franchises.
The company behind the "Call of Duty" game, Activision, however, was undeterred by such negativity. During a meeting with its investors, its creators said that the reaction was a normal response to gamers' love of the franchise. Pre-orders for the new "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" game have since flooded, even with the negative publicity.
CEO Eric Hirshberg also noted on the number of likes the new trailer got were as equally high as well. Same with the reveal trailer for "Black Ops II," people had been negative about it, yet the game became one of the company's most successful releases to date.
Hirshberg added that the company was never one of those who risks creativity or else they would not create a franchise. "The day to worry is the day we stop trying new things," continued Hirshberg.
On the other hand, the new "Call of Duty" game's developer Infinity Ward took to social media to forward its congratulations to the DICE team that "it's a great reveal trailer," according to Gamespot. The new "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare" game may have a futuristic ring to it; however, the story behind it does not stem from science fiction. The game's unique features offer gamers a first-hand experience in zero-gravity stills as well as crazy backdrops.
