LG has announced on Thursday, May 5, the Action CAM with YouTube Live support and built-in LTE connectivity.
According to Digital Trends, in recent years action cameras have become very trendy. However, with the emergence of live video streaming, users need a camera that has the ability to connect to a mobile network. LG's Action CAM LTE has been designed with this purpose in mind.
9To5Google reports that, without the need for a smartphone, users will be able to take advantage of the LTE connectivity feature in order to stream directly to sites like YouTube Live. This way, everyone can watch the action as it happens, in real time.
The same publication reports that the Action CAM comes with an IP67 rating for water, sand and dust protection. The device will come with a completely waterproof case later this year. For now, the LG Action Camera can withstand without any problems being immersed in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
The Action CAM features a 1,400mAh battery that will last up to 4 hours while recording full HD video. The camera's 1/2.3-inch lens can take still images at 12.3 megapixels.
A microSD card slot supports up to 2TB of storage for saving videos and images. The Action CAM comes equipped with 2GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.
LG's new camera is very similar to a GoPro, with the only difference that it provides LTE connectivity, motion sensing and GPS. The Action CAM can be also set up as a CCTV camera at home, having remote access via LTE and 3G. The recorded images and videos can be downloaded with a paired smartphone.
The camera can record 720p videos at 120 frames per second (fps), 1080p at 60fps, or 4K videos at 30fps. The Action CAM comes with a live streaming feature that works for only 720p at 30fps.
Weighing only 95 grams and at only 35 mm x 35 mm x 77.9 mm, LG Action CAM is compact enough to be taken anywhere. Among the connectivity options that are included are 3G, LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and USB Type-C 2.0 port.
No pricing is known yet. The LG Action Cam LTE will launch in June in South Korea, followed by Europe and North America thereafter.
